Preparation for 'Good Luck Beijing' events under way

(BEIJING, March 21) -- Thirty-four Olympic competition venues and 46 training venues will be put into operation during the "Good Luck Beijing" events, Yang Shu'an, executive vice-president of the organizing committee for the "Good Luck Beijing" events, said at Wednesday's press conference.
Yang, also executive vice-president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), said Beijing alone will use 30 competition venues for the upcoming events.The series events will include 42 games that see the competition of 28 Olympic sports and 2 Paralympic sports.

The 26 events to be held this year will include international sports federations (IFs) calendar events and invitational and open events. The IFs calendar events are World Junior Championships (Rowing), FIVB Women's Challenger, World Junior Championships (Wrestling), World Cup Final (Modern Pentathlon), 2007 Beijing Triathlon World Cup (Triathlon), ITF Circuit (Tennis) and ITTF Pro-TOUR Grand Finals.
Another highlight of the events this year will be the Goal Ball International Event. The event, to take place in mid-September in Beijing, will be the sport's first international level event in the country.
According to the organizers, around 10,049 athletes, 400 IFs officials, as well as 700 international technical officials and 1,500 domestic technical officials, are anticipated to take part in the events.
