Press conference on 2007 boxing invitational tournament

(Beijing, November 12) The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Boxing Invitational Tournament will be held at Beijing's Workers' Indoor Arena on November 17-22, 2007. At a pre-event press conference held by the local organizing committee on November 12, Li Rongqing, executive president of the organizing committee gave a brief account of venue construction, volunteers, related services and other preparations for the upcoming event.

The renovation of the Ditan Gymnasium to be used for training during the tournament as well as next year's Olympic boxing competition began on December 6, 2006. After pulling down a 1500-square meter supporting building, a new gym of 3200.20 sqr. m. has been built on the old site, enlarging the total space to 14,764.20 sqr. m.

The renovation of the Workers' Indoor Arena, venue of the 2007 International Boxing Invitational Tournament as well as the Olympic boxing and Paralympic judo competitions, began on May 18, 2006. Besides great improvement made in its functions including the ventilation system, press seats, VIP seats and VIP rooms have been added to meet the needs of the Olympic Games.

During November 16 and 22 a total of 10 service stations will be set up in Beijing's Dongcheng District, where some 450 student volunteers from 11 local universities will provide their service to the participants of the boxing tournament. In addition, 23 medical workers from eight local medical institutions including Chaoyang Hospital and Beijing Emergency Center will be sent to different sections such as registration, media, transportation, competition and spectator service.

After the press conference, the participating media were given a tour of the venue for the upcoming boxing tournament scheduled to open on November 17.
