Day-2 roundup: Mexican and US teams top the list

(Beijing, November 18) On the second day of the 2007 International Boxing Invitational Tournament, all preliminaries were over with eight boxers each in the 51kg, 57kg, 60kg and 69kg qualifying for the quarterfinals, including three from host China. Among them Mexico and the United States have achieved the best results.
Members of the Chinese national team, which had just come back from the recent World Championships, competed in the prelims in three categories. Among them, Li Yang advanced in the 57kg, while Hu Qing and Li Quanlong were eliminated.
The Beijing municipal team participated in all the prelims, with Li Jinbao and Li Sijia successfully making the quarterfinals in the 51kg and 60kg respectively and Tan Jun and Adili eliminated in the 57kg and 69kg respectively.
Team Mexico gave the best performance in the prelims, advancing in all the three categories it had competed. Team USA also did well, qualifying for the next round in both categories it had competed.
In addition, India, Chinese Taipei and Thailand also advanced in two categories.
The quarterfinals in all the six weight categories will be contested at the Workers' Indoor Arena on November 19.
