R. Williams looks forward to success in Olympics
(Beijing, November 22) American boxer Raynell Williams outgunned Arturo Santos of Mexico to win the 57kg final of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Boxing Invitational Tournament today at the Beijing Workers' Indoor Arena. In the post-match interview the title winner Williams looked forward to the 2008 Olympic Games and silver medalist Santos explained the reason of his failure.
In the match Williams led 6-4 after the first round. Santos narrowed the gap 8-7 in the middle of the second but failed to exceed, trailing 16-8 after that round. Santos fought well again in the third, moving closer at 19-17. In the decisive fourth round, William set the pace to win 31-22.
Williams said after match: "This was my first gold medal from an international tournament and it will be the new start of my career. Now I will concentrate on preparing for the Beijing Olympic Games. I hope to succeed in the Olympics."
Santos said: "Williams is much taller than me. I wished to find his weakness in his footwork but he moved very quickly and I didn't have any chance. The gap in height and arms made me lose the match. I hope to take part in more competitions in the near future to get well prepared for the 2008 Olympics."
